Minneapolis Monday: Doomtree

Yes. So far I am posting my friends from Minneapolis. A bit nepotistic, perhaps…but you know what, that’s all good, because I’m blessed to have some talented friends in my hometown, and I’ll do all I can to spread those scintillating rays of Minneapolitan creative-culture at every chance I get. That being said, my buddies in the Minneapolis-based rap collective Doomtree are putting out thier first full-length crew album this week. After dozens of individual EPs (The False Hopes series), thousands of national shows and dozens of tours, it’s come together. I know I’m excited. Are you? It doesn’t matter.
Soundwise, Doomtree is a snake-oil prophet with white-plastic Frogskins enthusiastically selling you a peacoat full of cardboard boomboxes and the sharpest knives you’ll ever see. AND a good, heady conversation. The crew consists of frontman P.O.S., the rap-hobo” stylings of Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Sims, Dessa, deejay Turbo Nemesis, deejay and beatmaker Paper Tiger, beatmaker Lazerbeak and beatmaker, deejay and the team’s art director M.K. Larada.
