Obsessive Branding Disorder, pt.1

So, recently we acquired, as part of the 160over90′s vast and expanding library, Lucas Conley’s OBD (Obsessive Branding Disorder). I made it two pages into chapter 1 and found myself alarmed at the persuasive power of advertising. It’s not that I did not know the power of branding’s existence prior to this book or the [...]

The Facial Hair of Champions

It is no secret that the Eagles have been playing with an intensity and consistency like never before in recent weeks. It is also no secret that there has been an increase in facial hair forming on all parts of the Eagles squad, including players, coach Andy Reid and even owner Jeff Lurie. Call it [...]

Web Typography

Web typography has been a bit of a thorn in the side of the designer for a while. While there is nothing online that will offer the satisfaction of a Saturday Night with a bottle of whiskey and a pirate copy of InDesign (ahh, memories of Christmas in the Tennyson house), there is hope yet [...]

What would happen if Microsoft redesigned the Ipod packaging?

In the many interviews I have conducted since joining 160over90, there is one question that is always asked without fail, “what is your favorite brand?” or some modification of that question. Yard Signs 2009: Yard’s Revenge

Ah, the irony in this post will be layered on more thick than special sauce on a Schmitter. Regular readers will by now be well aware of my deep-seeded contempt for yard signs, which I’ve now touched on in not one but two posts in the still nascent stages of this blog.  So imagine my surprise when [...]

Advertising Imitating Life

New Balance 993

Mike Park, one of the designers here, sent around this story today about photographer David Proeber. Mr. Proeber was driving on Interstate 55, when he witnessed a high-speed chase. As any good photographer would do, he pulled over to capture it on film. That was when the suspect/robber decided to go after him, luckily Mr. Proeber wasn’t hurt. Once I looked at the photos it just made sense that this should be mocked up into an ad for New Balance. It has all that classic heist bad-assness that a Deniro or Guy Ritchie film would have. We don’t actually have New Balance as a client, but if they’re interested we’re up for a meeting.
