Feeding America…One Macy’s Celebrity at a time

How many celebs can you fit into a Macy’s commercial? Wait, I know this one…no, no that Popes in a Volkswagen. Anyway, though I really enjoyed Macy’s previous celeb-filled commercials where celebs got the opportunity to hock their most recent clothing and accessories lines, I must say I am way more impressed by the campaign they are now beginning in conjunction with Feeding America.

Though a bit heavy on the cheese- no pun intended, Emeril, the message as well as the approach the Web site takes, is well-integrated and thought through (but I still cannot get on board with the “walk-ons” even if it is “The Donald”).

Here is the idea, have a dinner party and invite your friends over. Ask your friends to make some sort of donation that you can predetermine. Then donate that money through the Web site to feed hungry Americans, after all you just enjoyed a delicious dinner and your pants are feeling particularly tight, so your guilt over those who are hungry should be at an all time high. Sounds simple enough and there is even a place on the Web site to create your own invitations. Martha Stewart also provides recipes for you to use for your dinner party on the site (see DC, and you thought recipe cards were lame).

Overall, not a bad idea, and a great cause. Particularly given the economy, I like that there continue to be more efforts than ever before to make charitable contributions and look beyond their own bottom line.
