Fish House Punch. It has a rich heritage.

Every Friday around 4 (or so), we at the agency enjoy what is known as “Beer Friday,” because it is Friday and also because we drink beer. How this works is, once it’s Friday at 4, beers are consumed. Every once in awhile we like to “class up” (bring class into) Beer Fridays with the addition of something a bit more festive, like champagne or bourbon or sangria (sangria friday was not pretty).

Long story longer, last night a few agency folks attended a cocktail history event at the Historical Society of Philadelphia and learned about a history-filled local concoction known as “Fish House Punch.”  As we understood it, it consisted of rum, brandy, another kind of brandy, rum, and brandy. And history. Lots of history:

Ambrosia of the gods? Earth earthy? Mild taste? Well, this was definitely going to be served at the next Beer Friday. Which was about an hour ago.

The spirit of the Schuylkill (it took me like five tries to spell that correctly) State is alive and well and currently playing a game of ping pong!

Huzzah! Well, I’ve had like four cups of this stuff, and should probably sign off lest I start to overuse parentheses. Until next Beer (punch, vodka, etc.) Friday!
