All About.

Printed in 1957, the designs of these covers are a blessed aesthetic convergence. The thick textured cloth and debossed inky black type tie them firmly to the tradition of classic childhood books. The bold spare composition and modern typesetting give them a wizz-bang new frontier coolness.

And the economy and power of those illustrations! A simple rocket and squid, as keys to the imagination, have the power of a thousand glossy covers. The effect is hypnotic. Holding these for a while you’re tempted not so much to thumb through them as to dive into the covers themselves. Just perfect.(via shepelavy.com)

Unlikely Duo – Stella McCartney and Morrissey Team Up on Vegan Footwear Line

When I first read this I instantly did a double take, Stella McCartney and Morrissey are doing a footwear line (recently featured on Racked and Grazia Daily)?? But hey if you have money and are passionate for a cause it makes sense, and I love Ms. McCartney’s style. Interested to see the style this new line of leather free, vegan footwear will take on. Best wishes on the line. I know a few of the die hard Morrissey fans here at 160over90 will be interested to see this unfold.

Twitter on display

Saks Fifth Avenue’s window displays are always a thing talked about during the holiday season. This year one of their displays has gone the social networking route by displaying a live twitter feed with tweets tagged #holidaywindows. Here’s the article from “The Cut” posted yesterday TheCut_Saks_Twitter. The Cut mentions that this is a direct result of the retailer’s new partnership with Microsoft.

Smack Talk (the good kind)

SMACK Media

Here’s a new boutique marketing and media agency that specializes in brand building, athlete management, and PR specifically for the endurance sports market.  Their niche concentration is guided by founder Elisette Carlson’s extensive experience in sports marketing. Prior to founding SMACK! Media, as Director of Marketing for Zoot Sports, Eli helped lead a successful footwear product launch that saw booming sales and received considerable accolades.

Based in San Diego, CA, they sum up their approach best by stating, “with brands and athletes competing fiercely in an already crowded market, SMACK! Media is committed to being the five fingers across the rear to propel your brand forward.”

Paying our west coast friends a visit is as easy as clicking a button: www.smackmedia.com.  Now if only there was a button to experience some of that California sunshine.

BRAND AID

Earlier this week some of the 160over90 crew set out for a visit to Boston’s Back Bay. Amid a hotel full of bankers in three-pieces suits and a number of interestingly dressed hair designers we attended the American Marketing Association Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education. 160over90, accompanied by Sharon Higgins from Loyola University Maryland, led a session titled Brand Aid: Getting Your Institution To Think Like The Consumer Brand That It Is. We also hosted a Cocktails & Ping Pong happy hour (check back for more on this) and exhibited our work in AMA’s central meeting hall. We put together this stop-motion video to give attendees an idea of our work and a peek into our agency culture. It’s comprised of over 6,500 images and was shot in just one take. Pretty groovy – kudos to our top-notch production team.

The AMA Symposium brought together higher education marketers from all over the world to discuss cutting edge approaches, new tools and technologies, and the current trends in higher ed marketing. It was the first time we’ve attended anything like this event and it was a great experience. We got to hang with people from all over the map: from Miami University of Ohio and University of Arizona, to the University of South Australia and the Ramius Corporation in Ontario. Thanks to everyone who attended our session and event or stopped by to say hello. We had a great time and look forward to participating in next year’s symposium – hopefully it’s held somewhere warm and sunny.

Be Colonel

On a recent (COLD!) Friday night, we traveled to Brodheadsville, PA  to surprise an unsuspecting high school senior with a visit from the Wilkes University Mascot, the Colonel, as part of their Be Colonel campaign.  The scene was very “Friday Night Lights”:  Pleasant Valley High School was battling their rival Stroudsberg High School in the final football game of the season.  At the end of the first quarter, the Colonel hit the bleachers with an entourage of Wilkes University cheerleaders who launched t-shirts and rally towels into the rowdy crowd of student fans.

The focus of all this attention?  Jordan Borger,  an all star PVHS softball and field hockey player who was recently accepted to Wilkes.

Though clearly shocked, Jordan was all smiles when she heard the announcer shout her name and realized the spectacle was in her honor.   She was surrounded by excited friends and cheering classmates as the Colonel presented her with a bag full of Wilkes gear, including her very own Colonel Bobblehead, and a box of soft pretzels.  Pleasant Valley went on to beat Stroudsberg 28-7.

The Pocono Record liked the stunt so much, they interviewed Jordan about her experience:

Thanks for being such a good sport Jordan!  Welcome to Wilkes!
