Since the ’50s, Downtown Crossing was where Boston shopped. With the rise of the suburban shopping mall, however, that neighborhood's activity declined. The City of Boston asked us to re-envision the neighborhood. Hiring a marketing firm for a role traditionally held by urban planners — defining curb heights, establishing pedestrian zones, re-imagining light fixtures — may seem unconventional, but our branding expertise helped uncover the neighborhood's essential truths, leading to a cohesive vision and brand for the new Downtown Crossing.
