With the Premier League entering the field of Esports for the very first time, our challenge was twofold. Firstly, to generate awareness of the ePL’s inaugural tournament and secondly to drive viewers to watch via the live twitch broadcast. How?
Fan Influencer amplification: To target the casual football fan we recruited x19 influencer football fans, one to represent (and support!) each of the clubs from the PL. Through elevated seeding of club shirts, we asked each to do official ‘unboxings’ to reveal their clubs Esports player and announce the live twitch finals to their viewers. Plus we challenged them each to live out a day in the life of an eSports player and document it via their channels.
Earned media: With days until the finals we secured a broadcast tour at BBC Media City with two of the ePL’s star players. Plus ran a hard working media function from the finals, placing interviews with each of the x40 competitors
